Cryogenic Storage Tank Structural Design – Praxair/KnightHawk Engineering

iGET was on the design team to perform the Design of Steel Storage Tank structure.  Designed the RC Ring Beam, bearing on Foamglas insulation, for 2 million gallon Containment tank to handle Cryogenic (-3200 F) temperatures.  Built a Finite Element Solid Model in NASTRAN and performed stress analysis.  Established and reviewed the design basis, material selection, structural data per API 620 ACI 318 and ASCE 7.  Reviewed Steel design of the inner shell per API 620 and outer shell per API 650, accounting for all load combinations, and addressing all failure modes for strength and stability. Released fabrication details. Used AME Tank, NASTRAN, and STAAD Foundation software.
